The following are thoughts provided by Marc Musso to an inquiring agency that was evaluating HawkSoft and QQ Catalyst. The investigating agency asked Marc the following:
- Why did you switch from QQ Catalyst to HawkSoft
- Are you happy that you made the switch to HawkSoft
- What other information can you share about your satisfaction with HawkSoft
Marc has granted HawkSoft permission to share this information in an effort to help other agencies in their search for the right management system. The content below reflects Marc’s opinions and may not reflect the view and opinions of HawkSoft, Inc.
My experience of switching to HawkSoft
QQ was a small company from Florida when I was using their management system. When they sold to Vertafore, I began researching other management systems. Jeff McMillan of McMillan Insurance Services, a HawkSoft customer since 2009, encouraged me to check out HawkSoft, which appeared similar to QQ. Before I switched to HawkSoft, I read and watched everything on HawkSoft’s website. Linda Anderson, one of HawkSoft’s Senior Territory Managers, invited me to a regional meeting where I met Paul Hawkins, CEO and Co-owner of HawkSoft. Based on my interactions there and everything I had read, I felt very comfortable with HawkSoft. HawkSoft is a privately-owned company that cares.
How HawkSoft compares to QQCatalyst
As far as I remember, HawkSoft can do everything QQ can and more.
HawkSoft commissions are easier.
Their new HawkLink feature is great. It’s a powerful data mapping and form-filling tool for carrier and insurance websites. I was part of the Beta committee to test HawkLink. It was a great experience.
Pricing and Data Ownership
HawkSoft does not make you sign long-term contracts. Instead, they use a simple month-to-month agreement. QQ does not. After QQ’s acquisition by Vertafore, they are terrible at letting you get out of your contract. This is big for me because I hate long-term contracts.

Ask HawkSoft and QQ what it costs to get your data from them if you decide to switch to another agency management system. I think I paid QQ over $1,000 for my data 3 years ago. I’m sure the prices have gone up.
Customer Service and Partnership Philosophy
HawkSoft customer service is awesome. HawkSoft gives you a human touch that QQ/Vertafore can’t!
Another selling point for HawkSoft is that they will take care of you when things go wrong. When HawkSoft’s system experiences a major outage, which all systems do, they are very good about keeping agencies informed. On one particular occasion, HawkSoft even issued us a credit on our invoice for that month. Which other management system can say that they have done this? NONE!
Reports and business intelligence
HawkSoft Agency Intelligence is much better than QQ. The reporting capabilities and reports are great in HawkSoft. I know more about my book of business, agents, and CSRs in a few clicks than I ever did with QQ.
