On October 26, 2009, Geocities is scheduled to be shut down. I was one of the many homesteaders (as the users were called) who joined in 1996. Geocities was perhaps the first social networking site, divided into regions based on the theme of your site. As a web developer it is critical to test with multiple browsers. Since 1996, when I first began developing web pages, I have always tested with the current version of IE and Netscape (now Firefox). That still provides a fairly good test, but today, with many people (rightfully) hanging on to older version of MS Windows and older version of IE, it is important to test with older versions of IE also.
